What Debt Collectors are covered under the FDCPA Laws?


Know who is subject to FDCPA law

Any collector who regularly collects debt must follow the FDCPA guidelines. This can include: collection agencies or creditors collecting for other collection agencies and lawyers who regularly collect debt. Exemptions to the FDCPA guidelines may include in-house collection agents who collect their own debt such as a department store collection agents and banks or credit card companies. If the in-house collection agent hires a third party to collect their debt, the third party must abide by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act guidelines.
